Description
Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds in America, UK, and Canada.
They make wonderful hunting dogs and family pets. Most labs come in three primary colors: Yellow, Chocolate, and Black.
This piece is dedicated to the lovable black dog. Sadly, some studies have shown that black dogs are often passed over for adoption in favor of their lighter colored brother and sisters.
This piece has been featured in the following FAA Groups and Contests.

Since one of our dogs is a beautiful Black Lab, this really caught my eye, Kathy - love how you rendered him . . . might inspire me to do a version of Huck in watercolor washes! L/F, sharing on FB, Twitter, G+ and Pinterest
Kathy Kelly replied:
Thanks so much Conni. Black labs are wonderful dogs. A dear friend of mine has one and he is the love of her life. :-)

Gorgeous !! Which country are the statistics from ? I see plenty of black dogs in dog parks here in Sydney and I owned few as well , but people used to get scared of my rotti, how silly of them, she was the most gentle dog ever !! l/f
Kathy Kelly replied:
Hi Miroslava, they are from the US and Canada. The color "black" has historically been associated with fear, death, and the unknown. While attitudes are changing, shelters still struggle to find homes for large black dogs. It could be that their faces don't show as well in pictures or perhaps they don't stand out as much in the pens as their lighter color cousins. Either way, shelters have come up with an array of "Black Dog Specials" to promote their adoption.
