Description

This romantic piece depicts a young woman seated by a tranquil brook under a harvest moon. As a young girl, I’d often walk down to the creek behind our house and marvel at how the moonlight played upon the water. The sound of the running water and crickets were as soothing as a summer breeze.

Romanticism was, in part, a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. It emphasizes the beauty and power of nature, imagination, intuition, and individuality. These works often show mankind in harmony with nature while others portray nature's power and unpredictability evoking a feeling of owe and fear.
