A digital watercolor of a Great Blue Heron standing on one leg along the banks of the C & O Canal in Maryland.
Great blue herons are typically found around water, but occupy wide variety of wet habitats. They can be found hunting among rocky cascades, on streams and rivers, coastal beaches, swamps, and tidal marshes.
Great blues are found throughout Maryland year-round, as some individuals spend the winter in the state, while others migrate south. This work has been featured in the following FAA Groups.
