Description
This photograph, taken by Kathy Kelly, is of a Tufted Titmouse taking off from a backyard feeder. This little gray bird has become a common sight in our backyard. With an echoing voice, this bird is often found in eastern deciduous forests.
The Titmouse has large black eyes, a small, round bill, and a bushy crest giving these birds a quiet but eager expression that matches the way they flit through canopies, hang from twig-ends, and drop in to bird feeders.
When a titmouse finds a large seed, it will carry its prize to a perch and crack it with sharp whacks of its stout bill.
