Owl butterflies are members of the genus Caligo, in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. They are found in the rain-forests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central, and South America. This one was especially handsome with not just one "eye" but several. A defense mechanism to ward off hungry predators.
