Artist's Description

At first glance, this photograph appears to be just an outcropping of rocks. However, upon closer inspection, one realizes there's more to it than meets the eye.

Perfectly camouflaged, the subject of this piece makes itself known. With a crest of long spines and often reaching up to 3 feet in length, the Mexican black spiny-tailed iguana loves to bask on the rocks. This fast moving reptile can reach speeds up to 21.7 miles per hour making it the world's fastest lizard. Native to Central America, many can now be found in South Florida. I came across this particular individual while visiting the resort town of Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast.

This work has been featured in the following FAA Groups and Contests.
