Description
This piece depicts an ammonite fossil. Its soft textured background uses tropical colors such as turquoise, beige and sea foam green. A perfect piece to add a tropical or nautical feel to a room.
Ammonites are perhaps the most widely known fossil due to their distinctive shells. These sea creatures lived between 240 - 65 million years ago, grew up to be 9 feet in diameter, were related to other cephalopods—such as squid, octopuses, and cuttlefish—and they were early relatives of the modern nautilus. Their shells have been found everywhere on the planet where oceans and seas once existed.
Ammonites were the predators of their time, feeding on most living marine creatures including molluscs, fish and even other cephalopods.
