Description
I photographed this beautiful Eastern tiger swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) in an orchard not far from my home. Busy gathering nector from a group of Zowie Yellow Flame Zinneas, she hardly noticed me.
This species of swallowtail is native to eastern North America and is one of the most familiar butterflies in the eastern United States. Its wingspan can range in measurement from 3.1 to 5.5 inches. Common habitats include woodlands, fields, rivers, creeks, roadsides, and gardens. It will also stray into urban parks and city yards.
