Description
Vintage (1940's) black and white photograph of a young American woman (my mother) riding a camel in the Moroccan desert in North Africa.
This photograph is my dedication to an incredible woman. Independent, smart, and kind, Bobbie Devlin later married, earned a pilot's license, raised two successful children and several wonderful German Shepherds.
Once her children started school, Bobbie Devlin started a new career - one that was unlikely choice for women in the 1960s. She became Maryland's first woman home builder. Self taught, she began drawing blueprints, then designed and built her own home. It wasn't long before others sought her out to design and build their homes as well.
What started out as a hobby developed into a 25 year career as a successful. general contractor and business owner.
Standing at 5' 2", Bobbie Devlin was energy in motion. Breaking into a male dominated field wasn't easy for a woman back in the 1960's, let alone one that was pretty and petite. We miss you mom.
